Frequently Asked Questions
For a 54mm Breville or Sage setup, check the 53mm option against your basket’s actual internal diameter. The portafilter’s nominal size is not the puck screen size. The screen should sit flat on the coffee without wedging against the basket walls. If unsure, contact us with your machine model and basket details.
Not always. The screen adds 0.8mm above the coffee puck, so your usual dose may still fit. If the portafilter becomes harder to lock in, check that the screen sits flat and reduce the dose slightly to restore clearance. Do not force the handle into place.
Tamp the coffee first, then place the screen flat on top of the finished puck. You do not need a second tamp over the screen. Prepare and distribute the grounds as usual before adding it.
It can help spread incoming water and reduce disturbance at the puck surface, but it cannot correct uneven grounds or an unsuitable grind setting. If your espresso still channels or tastes sour, check your grind, dose, distribution, and brew recipe rather than relying on the screen alone.
Adding a screen can change shot flow. First check that the mesh is clean and there is enough clearance above the puck. If both are correct and the shot still runs too slowly, try a small grind adjustment. Change one variable at a time and judge the result by taste.
Yes. Once the machine has released pressure and the screen is cool enough to handle, remove it before discarding the puck. This keeps the reusable screen out of the knock box and makes it easier to rinse separately.
Empty the used grounds and rinse the basket thoroughly after each use. Gently brush away any residue on the mesh and bottom holes, then dry before reuse. Keeping the filtration layers clean helps maintain consistent flow.
Rinsing with warm water after each shot removes loose grounds, but coffee oils can build up between the layers. Periodically use a mild cleaner suitable for the screen’s material and finish. Rinse thoroughly before reuse.
